Utah’s One Thing: Shireen Ghorbani Salt Lake County Council

Standard

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Episode 122 we were joined by the now newly elected Salt Lake County Council member, Shireen Ghorbani. Shireen is a transplant to Utah and she told us it was hard to choose, but the one thing that she would tell someone visiting Utah that they had to do before leaving would be to visit the “most beautiful” Grand Stair Case Escalante. This beautiful piece of land is the size of Delaware! Shireen said that our parks and monuments are cool! Utah.com is a great resource to find out more about this stunning piece of nature in Utah!

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Episode 119, local artist Cara Jean Means, told us that the one thing someone visiting Utah should do is to jump in one of Utah’s many creeks fully clothed, up to your neck! Cara specifically mentioned Provo canyon creeks. Geology.com is a great source for mapping Utah’s water. Good news is, there are creeks all over our Utah mountains that you could find one anywhere! **WARNING!!! Do not play in creeks with spring run off**

Utah’s One Thing: Shawn, Green Urban Lunch Box

Standard

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

During episode 109 Shawn, the founder of Green Urban Lunch Box, told us that the one thing that someone visiting Utah had to do before leaving was to take a drive up the canyon to be in the wilderness. Shawn said it’s also good to be in the city and do cool city things.

Fortunately Utah has plenty of canyons to visit and plenty of city to find cool in *which we have written tons about here on our website*! We love Utah.com’s guide for Scenic Drives & Byways.  This map is just a smidgen of the Wasatch Front canyons!

Utah’s One Thing: Mike of Humans of Salt Lake

Standard

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Normally Mike is the one sitting down to hear people’s stories in Salt Lake. But this time we got him to sit down with us, as the founder of Humans of Salt Lake, for episode 108. Mike spends a lot of time in Salt Lake and his one thing that someone should do when visiting Utah is to read up on Salt Lake City and on Utah. Mike said don’t come to Utah with a closed mind and narrow expectations. Mike also said don’t be afraid to walk around.

GPSmycity has a great app that you can create your own walking tours around Salt Lake City. Or, you can just put on your shoes and find your way around. It is really easy, as everything is laid out in block.

Whether you are visiting in the summer and get to go to Pioneer Park, or if you are visiting in the winter season, you can head to the Rio Grande. Alison also said if you are down south, you must eat at Hell’s Back Bone Grill. Utah’s One Thing: Derek Kitchen, Utah Senator District 2

Standard

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Episode 126 we had the honor of sitting down with Derek Kitchen, Senator for District 2. Derek had a great list of things that he would tell someone visiting Utah that they must do before leaving! Derek’s first item would be to visit Utah’s cultural arts. He said to visit the Granary Row district mural program. Derek said you have to visit Utah’s Brewery’s (the link is just a handful of breweries that exist in Utah) and partake in some of Utah’s own cocktails. Also, head over to Temple Square and visit Space Jesus… aka the Christus statue of Jesus in the visitor center. But we most definitely prefer Space Jesus.
