Episode 184 we took a field trip to the Summum Pyramid in Salt Lake City and had a chat with Su, Bernie, and Ron. When we asked them what the one thing someone should do when visiting Utah is, Ron and Bernie both warmly said visit Summum! Su said that you should go hiking. We agree with both! Utah’s One Thing: Jessie Jude Gilmore, Clubhouse on South Temple

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

We were honored to have caretaker of the Clubhouse on South Temple, Jessie Jude Gilmore, join us for episode 178 to talk about the grant they were up for from Partners in Preservation: Main Streets campaign hosted by National Geographic. The building is known for being Salt Lake’s very own Ladies Literary Club. And yes, they did win the grant!

We asked Jessie what her one thing she would tell someone visiting Utah that they must do before leaving, and she told us to go up past Pine View reservoir and find yourself at Causey reservoir and cliff jump! She said, recognize that you are in nature.

Moudi also said to go on a hike. He said everything is so close and to be able to see the entire valley is breathtaking. Episode 168 we were joined by carbon fiber ring designer, Patrick Adair. He told us that the one thing he would tell someone to do when visiting Utah would be to go off roading! Patrick said that there are so many places like 5 mile pass and Little Sahara, just to name a couple. The Trek Planner has a great overview of 5 Mile Pass. One of our favorite resources, Utah.com, has some great information on the Little Sahara sand dunes.

We had the opportunity to be joined for episode 162 by educator and fellow podcaster, Shannon Barnson. Shannon told us that he’s not a camper so the one thing he would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving would be go on a tour… A tour? What kind of tour Shannon? Well, he said that people think Utah is prudish so go on a brewery/distillery tour of course! Kiito’s is Shannon’s favorite right now. He also said to check out one of his favorite restaurants like Takashi or drive to Tremonton and eat at Maddox Ranch House!

Utah’s One Thing: Katrina Barker, Planned Parenthood Utah

Katrina Barker, the marketing and communications director for Planned Parenthood of Utah joined us for episode 158. Katrina told us that the one thing someone should do when visiting Utah is to go into the mountains. Go on a hike. She is an avid hiker. Katrina didn’t grow up around mountains and when she moved here she missed the trees back east, but now she can’t fathom not living in Utah. Katrina said Utah has quirks and some frustrating things, so if she could clean the air and kick out 70% of legislation… that would be perfect.

Jeff Dillon, local Utah musician, sat down with us for episode 164. Jeff told us that the one thing that he would tell someone visiting that they had to do depends on a couple factors. He said that he has buddies coming through town all the time, you know other fancy musicians, and he takes them to places like the Olympic Park (open year round), to the Great Salt Lake to “see how shitty it is,” to the Heavy Metal Shop, the Pie Hole, and to dive bars! Jeff said he likes to take people to bars to show them our bizarre Utah laws!!

He said it is some of the most unique scenery in the world. *and we trust Curry because he’s military and has traveled the world!*
