Episode 164 Jeff Dillon and NOT the Dill-weeds

Standard

Jeff Dillon, Utah musician, joined us during episode 164 for an awesome interview about finding your voice in a local music scene!

Sometimes your born with music in your soul and that is where Jeff’s story starts. A musical family, just not the music Jeff loved. Growing up Jeff was influenced by artists such as Helmut, Smashing Pumpkins, Faith No More, Stabbing Westward, and Front 242. Jeff’s first band started in high school, Viciate, and would only last a short time. From 22-34 Jeff was just adulting, as we all find ourselves doing at one point or another. At 34, Jeff decided to pick up a guitar again and started taking guitar lessons. He then stepped back in front of a mic with his guitar. Jeff has now been playing again for 5 years, with 1 and a half of those as front man of Jeff Dillon and the Revival.

Jeff recently released his 2nd album, Reflections. We talked about how being an artist now is much different than when he started music 20 years ago. There might not be an opportunity to become a superstar, but the reach that music has now because of streaming is almost achieving a level that artists have always dreamed of. This was our first episode that we were graced by a musician playing live on our show!

Utah’s One Thing: Jeff Dillon, Musician

Standard

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Jeff Dillon, local Utah musician, sat down with us for episode 164. Jeff told us that the one thing that he would tell someone visiting that they had to do depends on a couple factors. He said that he has buddies coming through town all the time, you know other fancy musicians, and he takes them to places like the Olympic Park (open year round), to the Great Salt Lake to “see how shitty it is,” to the Heavy Metal Shop, the Pie Hole, and to dive bars! Jeff said he likes to take people to bars to show them our bizarre Utah laws!!
