Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Katrina Barker, the marketing and communications director for Planned Parenthood of Utah joined us for episode 158. Katrina told us that the one thing someone should do when visiting Utah is to go into the mountains. Go on a hike. She is an avid hiker. Katrina didn’t grow up around mountains and when she moved here she missed the trees back east, but now she can’t fathom not living in Utah. Katrina said Utah has quirks and some frustrating things, so if she could clean the air and kick out 70% of legislation… that would be perfect.

One of our favorite apps for hiking is Alltrails!

Jeff Dillon, local Utah musician, sat down with us for episode 164. Jeff told us that the one thing that he would tell someone visiting that they had to do depends on a couple factors. He said that he has buddies coming through town all the time, you know other fancy musicians, and he takes them to places like the Olympic Park (open year round), to the Great Salt Lake to “see how shitty it is,” to the Heavy Metal Shop, the Pie Hole, and to dive bars! Jeff said he likes to take people to bars to show them our bizarre Utah laws!!

Utah’s One Thing: Front Row Film Roast/CrowdSourced Comedy

Standard

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Episode 154 we had the cast of the Front Row Film Roast/ CrowdSourced Comedy join us for a roaring good time! We asked Jessica, Andrew, Trevor, and Craig what the one thing the would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving! Here are there answers.

Andrew said that there is so much here but because others have mentioned national parks, etc. Andrew said to go to the Avenues! There is no rhyme or reason behind the style of homes and also in the Avenues is the Salt Lake Cemetery. It’s on a hill you can see all the city and the history connected to Utah.

Craig said, yes it sounds cliché for him to say, but if you are in Utah in the month of June go to Utah’s pride festival! SLC is unique because it has one of the most dense LGBTQ+ populations because a lot of people flock to the state because it is a place to belong.

Jessica said it depends on what you enjoy but her one thing to do in Utah, is to go to Cedar City and take in the Shakespeare Festival! It goes from June to October!

Trevor said his one thing is to go to the restaurant Five Alls, but our Jessica squashed his hopes and dreams by telling him it had recently closed. He then said, go to F***n Arches!

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

It took some time, but we were so excited to be joined for episode 150 by the (now former) editor of City Weekly, Enrique Limon. Enrique told us that the one thing you should do when visiting Utah is to allow yourself to be taken by the city. He said there is so much to do; nightlife, art spaces, pop up’s. Enrique said that one thing he remembers before he took the job at City Weekly, he was in town for a conference and he remembered waiting for the Trax and looking at the skyline and the mountains and thinking, I am a Utahn. He thought to himself, “something cool is happening here. Utah is on the brink of something,” and he just wanted to come back. Be like Enrique and go with the flow!!

Enrique also said, “don’t take what you think about the state as gospel.”

We asked him what he would have someone visiting Utah should do and he told us that they should head to Gilgal Sculptural Gardens! We’ve only had two other guests that have mentioned this hidden gem in Salt Lake City. He said it is so cool! Steve thinks all great artists like to see the weird and pristine, and that it is quite a production to build brick pants!

Utah’s One Thing: Dave Cawley, Cold Podcast Host

Standard

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

We had the honor of sitting down for episode 147 with local podcaster and investigative journalist, Dave Cawley, of The Cold Podcast. We asked Dave what his one thing, he would tell someone visiting Utah, they had to do before leaving would be. Dave told us it was complicated to tell us the why, but he told us he loves Utah’s back country. Dave also told us he hates talking about it because he hate’s what people do it and he wants to keep it sacred. So he stopped talking about his favorite places. We respect that.

Dave did tell us that the one thing someone should do when visiting Utah would be to drive to Torrey, Utah. He said go down Highway 12 to Hole in the Rock Road to Kodachrome in Bryce Canyon and over to Zion. Utah.com always has great information about locations like Kodachrome!
