Utah’s One Thing: Shawn, Green Urban Lunch Box

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

During episode 109 Shawn, the founder of Green Urban Lunch Box, told us that the one thing that someone visiting Utah had to do before leaving was to take a drive up the canyon to be in the wilderness. Shawn said it’s also good to be in the city and do cool city things.

Fortunately Utah has plenty of canyons to visit and plenty of city to find cool in *which we have written tons about here on our website*! We love Utah.com’s guide for Scenic Drives & Byways.  This map is just a smidgen of the Wasatch Front canyons!

Utah’s One Thing: Mike of Humans of Salt Lake

Standard

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Normally Mike is the one sitting down to hear people’s stories in Salt Lake. But this time we got him to sit down with us, as the founder of Humans of Salt Lake, for episode 108. Mike spends a lot of time in Salt Lake and his one thing that someone should do when visiting Utah is to read up on Salt Lake City and on Utah. Mike said don’t come to Utah with a closed mind and narrow expectations. Mike also said don’t be afraid to walk around.

GPSmycity has a great app that you can create your own walking tours around Salt Lake City. Or, you can just put on your shoes and find your way around. It is really easy, as everything is laid out in block.

I wouldn’t live anywhere else.” Josh said he loves living in a place that you still get to stick up for yourself and there is still space to fight for something. Josh also said to visit a music venue like Metro Music Hall. He said that when bands come back to a location often it says a lot about the city. Metro is just one of many amazing small venues in Salt Lake City. Urban Lounge, Kilby Court, The State Room, In The Venue, The CommonWealth Room, Park City Live, and The Garage are also fantastic SLC music venues!

Utah’s One Thing: Derek Kitchen, Utah Senator District 2

Standard

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Episode 126 we had the honor of sitting down with Derek Kitchen, Senator for District 2. Derek had a great list of things that he would tell someone visiting Utah that they must do before leaving! Derek’s first item would be to visit Utah’s cultural arts. He said to visit the Granary Row district mural program. Derek said you have to visit Utah’s Brewery’s (the link is just a handful of breweries that exist in Utah) and partake in some of Utah’s own cocktails. Also, head over to Temple Square and visit Space Jesus… aka the Christus statue of Jesus in the visitor center. But we most definitely prefer Space Jesus.

Utah’s One Thing: Pilot Barry Hancock

Standard

At the end of every New Utah interview we like to ask our guests, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Flight academy owner and aerobatic WWII warbird plane pilot, Barry Hancock, joined us for episode 98. Of course Barry said the one thing that you should do in Utah is head to his hangar in Heber and go to on war bird flight up in Heber with the Utah War Bird Adventures! He says the Wasatch front is incredible from the air! (Jessica fully agrees with this!)

Barry was full of all kinds of new and great suggestions! He said the state is so diverse and wonderful it’s hard to pick just one. He said the parks in the southern end of the state are unbelievable. Locally he said hit up the Timpanogos cave and the ice castles in Midway if you’re in town in the winter and it’s cold enough and to ride the Heber Creeper train.
