Episode 114 Transparency Creates Safety with Dr. Sunnie Giles

Standard

Episode 114 is the magic that happens when you get four educated people together with one VERY educated person with multiple degrees. Shall we call it, synergy? Is that the professional enough word?

We had our little minds blown this week when Dr. Sunnie Giles, author of The New Science of Radical Innovation, joined us to talk about her journey to Utah, applying for and getting her very own TEDTalk, involvement with the Harvard Business Review, and being a contributor to Forbes; and of course her new book! Dr. Giles brought herself over from Korea when she was just a young adult to study at BYU with just dollars in her pocket. Sunnie has lead a marvelous lifetime already both in life and in the corporate world from accounting, to marketing, and now owning her own corporate training establishment based out of Provo,Utah; Quantum Leadership.

We want to brag a little bit for her, some of her degrees include her start with a BS, in Accounting from Brigham Young University, UT. An MBA from University of Chicago, IL, and a PhD in Marriage & Family Therapy from Brigham Young University, UT.

Sunnie spent three years working on research to develop her recently released book, The New Science of Radical Innovation. Her studies revealed that 39% of people will give up compensation for a safe work environment. They also showed that transparency creates safety, and that when you aren’t managing emotions, there is no safety. Dr. Giles walked us through self governing in the work place and we discussed if it can be taught. She also gave us a new perspective on being innovative. We don’t want to spoil the whole interview, we suggest you take a listen!

Don’t be intimated by the book or her website. Dr. Giles has made it so a regular Joe can learn something from her studies and coaching. If you want to book her for corporate training you can find her on her website www.sunniegiles.com.

You can also follow her on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Oh and go buy her book! We did!
