Episode 225 Utah Day Trips and Cheese

Standard

Episode 225 producer Jessica was out (with a bit of a Covid-19 scare) and a cake baking injury… Yes, that is a thing.

We had Jeremy’s wife, Heather, and 2 youngest children, Jonathan and Hannah, sit down with us to talk about Covid-19 in school. We talk about how school life is different during the pandemic, if they feel things are safe, and what things are the most annoying.

Jonathan (Jeremy’s son), Bre, Chris

We also spend time talking about several Utah day trips that you can take from the Wasatch Front. Utah has so much to offer anyone open to adventure and experience. Our friend, and author, of Only in Utah Catherine Armstrong gave a great list of 10 spots to day trip in Utah. The Crazy Tourist also gave 15 best day trips!

The topic of Cheese comes up…quite a bit, we have a few fun movie references and overall, it’s a great (mostly) family friendly episode. You might even say this is one of our only suitable for work episodes!

Have you ever wondered about the people that write those articles on Only in Your State? You know the ones with all the cool things in your state that circulate through Facebook, Twitter, and your Instagram? Well, we wanted to know about who was writing Utah’s!

From young mom to college student, it was like she was meant to write for Only In Your State! Answering a Craigslist ad, when that wasn’t full of sketch and spam, Catherine was exactly what OIYS was looking for. She has now been working for them as a writer/editor for 4 years! She has written over 1500 articles about Utah and all of the great things that make up our state. On occasion there is an article that you might think is a repeat, but when there is so much information and research that can be done… it rarely is an actual repeat.

If you’re are looking for places to go, seasonal activities, a small town you’ve never been… There is everything from creepy, dining, nature, and attractions on Only in Utah. Follow Catherine’s finds on Only in Utah on Facebook, Instagram, and sign up for the newsletter (on the top left side) on the website for daily updates! You can also keep an eye out for her Van life adventures, now that her van has been retro-fitted for travel!

Utah’s One Thing: Catherine Armstrong, Only in Your State (Utah)

Standard

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

We had Catherine Armstrong, who gives us TONS of ideas for cool things to do in Utah on Only In Your State, sat down with us for episode 176 and she told us that the one thing she would tell someone they had to do when visiting Utah is to visit Brighton Lakes trail! Catherine said it is the prettiest, it is a high elevation, it is moderately difficult, and just a heads up… no dogs are allowed.

Episode 125 Eat Chocolate Not Heroin.

Standard

Sometimes we have the privilege to visit past guests in their own space! Episode 125 we were invited to record our show with AJ and Steve of The Chocolate Conspiracy at their shop at 774 S 300 W in Salt Lake City. **ONLY opened on Saturdays** It was just 6 months ago on episode 91 that we had them both in our studio to talk about how they got started, why chocolate, and about being part of the Utah’s Own community.

This time we got to sit down with AJ and Steve and talk about what they’ve been up to and what they have coming down the their chocolatey pipeline! The Chocolate Conspiracy’s most recent collaboration that you will see exclusive, for Uinta Brewing and Harmon’s grocery stores, is their black lager chocolate bar. What is this chocolate deliciousness you ask? Well, it is Chocolate Conspiracy’s coco soaked in Uinta Brewing’s BaBa lager! You know you want to taste it now! We loved our little sample (in the photo below) Other items on their docket include a chipotle orange bar, a coconut lime bar, and they are bringing back raspberry! The Chocolate Conspiracy is now in 70 stores across Utah and in 14 different states!
