Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

For episode 123 we had storyteller, Danny B Stewart, join us! When we asked Danny what the one thing he would tell someone visiting Utah that they needed to do before leaving, he said “let me pray about it…” Danny’s answer was to visit Gilgal Garden! Gilgal Garden is a quiet, hidden sculptural garden located in the middle of downtown Salt Lake City. Containing 12 original sculptures and over 70 stones engraved with scriptures, poems, and literary texts. It is definitely an artistic sight to behold!

Utah’s One Thing: Shireen Ghorbani Salt Lake County Council

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Episode 122 we were joined by the now newly elected Salt Lake County Council member, Shireen Ghorbani. Shireen is a transplant to Utah and she told us it was hard to choose, but the one thing that she would tell someone visiting Utah that they had to do before leaving would be to visit the “most beautiful” Grand Stair Case Escalante. This beautiful piece of land is the size of Delaware! Shireen said that our parks and monuments are cool! Utah.com is a great resource to find out more about this stunning piece of nature in Utah!

Of course in episode 121 Cami and Kimm Andersen , of Asylum 49, said that the one thing someone visiting Utah should do is visit their old hospital! Asylum 49 is open year round. You can visit the brand new community center on one side of the building which features VR and escape games. You can visit in the fall for the haunted hospital, or you are part of group, or you schedule your own, paranormal tour. There is plenty to enjoy and learn about at the Old Tooele Hospital!

Olympic speed skating medalist and Youth Outreach director at the Utah Olympic Oval, Derek Parra told us in episode 120 that he had several things that people should do when visiting Utah! Most important, go to the Olympic Oval! Derek also said to hike a trail, particularly Silver Lake hike through Alta. He also said to make time to visit one of Utah’s parks and spend some time downtown.

Cara specifically mentioned Provo canyon creeks. Geology.com is a great source for mapping Utah’s water. Good news is, there are creeks all over our Utah mountains that you could find one anywhere! **WARNING!!! Do not play in creeks with spring run off**

Dr. Doug Henstrom told us in episode 118 that there are just so many amazing things in Utah to do. Dr. Henstrom is a little biased with his football background and told us that the one thing someone visiting Utah should do before leaving is go to a BYU football game.

He said besides the setting that by far, the atmosphere is absolute tops!

Utah’s One Thing: Nina Vought, Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival

Nina Vought, the founder of the Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival, joined us on episode 112. Nina said that her one thing to do while visiting Utah would be to swim in her backyard! Joking aside, she said that there are near by hikes within 15-20 minutes of downtown, think Millcreek Canyon area. She said there are “phenomenal places” that are nothing like any other part of the world that she’s been.

Hikes and Lakes.com have some great hikes up Millcreek Canyon for anyone to try!

Jay said that he really understood how beautiful the earth was after visiting Moab. Jay also said to find yourself while you’re in Utah. He said that you might get briefed on the culture, and you can figure out what your brand is because Utah allows that.

During episode 109 Shawn, the founder of Green Urban Lunch Box, told us that the one thing that someone visiting Utah had to do before leaving was to take a drive up the canyon to be in the wilderness. Shawn said it’s also good to be in the city and do cool city things.
