Utah’s One Thing: Stuart Graves, Sundance Selfie Photographer

Standard

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

We had Stuart Graves, Sundance Selfie Photographer, join us pre-Sundance Film Festival for episode 134. Stuart said that the one thing that someone visiting Utah should do before leaving is to visit Moab and explore there. Stuart has been all over the world and he says Moab is still “surreal and amazing scenery.”

134 Sundance Celebrity Selfies with Stuart Graves

Standard

Episode 134 we had the pleasure to sit down and talk with the one and only, Stuart Graves. You may know him for his activism and passion for Salt Lake City but mostly you’ve probably heard him on Radio From Hell, featured in Salt Lake Magazine, and other local Utah news sources. Oh, and you might have seen him retweeted by celebrities! Stuart Graves is famously known in Utah for his Sundance Film Festival selfies.

Hugo Weaving, Joe Fiennes, and Stuart

Stuart may describe himself as as “dumpy nobody” but we disagree.  Stuart has a very special place in Salt Lake, even if he doesn’t think he does. If you follow him on Facebook, not only will you see his celebrity selfies at Sundance, you will catch a glimpse into Salt Lake City like you’ve never seen before. We want to mention that Stuart doesn’t do any of his photos with a cell phone. They are all done with a DSLR camera. Yep, even the selfies!

Alright, that being said… to Sundance! Sundance Film Festival starts January 24th and runs until February 3rd. If you decide to take a venture to Park City like Stuart and his entourage do to try to get a glimpse of celebrity, Stuart has given some “rules” of the trade. 1. Common Courtesy 2. Just go and see what happens, don’t be afraid. 3. Treat them like you would treat anyone kindly. We mentioned common courtesy, right?

Stuart has been doing celebrity selfies at Sundance for about 5 years and this is the first year he will be with credentials for Salt Lake Magazine. You will be able to follow his adventures on their website and social media. Stuart says you have to always be prepared for a “no” and just remember to be respectful of that. It has always come back  in his favor! Stuart gave us a list of some of his favorites, as well as his very first picture with a celebrity which was Bono during the Joshua Tree tour! We are sending out good vibes that his list of must have’s shrink which include; Chris Hemsworth, Robert Redford, Barbara Streisand, and Meryl Streep.
