The Big 5-0. No one even got any gold…. We feel cheated. Good news is, Jeremy’s bees are thriving and Chris & Bre have been planting/cleaning. Does anyone need a basket?

The New Utah was fortunate to be joined this week by none other than cookie maven, Tami Steggell. Owner and innovator behind those cookies you can’t get enough of, Utah’s very own, RubySnap! Listen to Tami’s journey from architect designer to cookie architect! We chatted about how she has stayed true to herself and her brand, and her vision for offering a memorable experience for every person that steps into her doors. Her cookies have and will continue to travel the world.

Without giving the WHOLE episode away, Tami gives us a history of why the pin-up girls and why the WWII facade is important to her. Each cookie is named after a friend, family member, or guest that has visited her store. Tami also talks with us on the importance of building relationships in the Utah community.  She may even be cool enough to tell us HER personal favorite!

Episode 48: 4 out of 5 dentists recommend!

Who is this 5th dentist that didn’t recommend? If you find them, let us know! Also if anyone knows why the UK is notorious for bad teeth???

Episode 48 we were joined by Dr. Nate Tobler of StoneHaven Dental. Why in the world would we have a dentist on? Because they are making an impact in the Utah community! Every year for the past 8(ish) years they have opened their offices up the first Saturday in May and done Stonehaven Smiles. Anyone is allowed to come and wait in line to get one of the following: a cleaning, a cavity filled, or an extraction!  As Dr. Nate said, there are plenty of kids dental programs around the state but this offers opportunity to adults as well. We also gave Dr. Nate the run-through of dental hygiene and dental myths.  By the way, Don’t suck on lemons!

We found an awesome list of Utah County Restaurants complied by the Daily Herald that are all over 25  years old. Which is pretty amazing since most food-based businesses don’t make it to the 3-7 year mark. Have you been to any of these? Which is your most and least favorite Utah County restaurant on this list? Dash Cox who is part owner of Title Boxing in Cottonwood Heights, an author, and nutritionist joined us on Tuesday. Dash shared his story of being a refugee and you guys, guess what? He isn’t even doing all those bad things that our President thinks refugee’s do! Dash also gave us a break down of his nutrition program he created and his history in boxing. Oh, and his name is NOT Flash or Billy Blanks! Listen to his story on the link below for more of his stories. Events this week include Record Store Day! Vinyl is totally hip you guys. This is a great time to collect special prints of your favorite records and we are lucky because Utah has plenty of record stores up and down the Wasatch Front. Graywhale, Randy’s Records & Cd’s, Diabolical Records, Raunch Records, the Heavy Metal Shop, Sound and Vision Vinyl, and Lavendar Vinyl just to name a few! Speaking of albums, friend of the show Nick Passey releases his album this weekend!! Sorry his show is sold out but GO BUY HIS ALBUM!

It is also the last weekend of the Winter Market for the Downtown Farmers market at Rio Grande before the summer takes over in Pioneer park again! This Sunday is also a memorial ride for fallen Officer Cody Brotherson. The Immortal Knights PSMC will be hosting the ride. The New Utah Podcast was welcomed into PSarah Johnson’s home this week, she even let us use her heated toilet seat with the landing strip lights! Who is this PSarah (yes, that is spelled correctly) you say?? She is the caucus director of Utah Women Unite. Yes, those amazing women who put together Utah Women’s March in January. The women that are fighting the good fight! She also tells us how that “p” got in front of her name.  If you are looking to get involved, she has plenty of opportunities for you. Utah Women Unite holds their meetings the first Wednesday of each month at the Clubhouse on South Temple. They have feminist bingo coming up on the 27th, the Ignored but Not Silenced Direct Action on March 8th, and the Show Us Your Green Gala on St. Patrick’s Day. Join Utah Women Unite Facebook group for future events and to do something!

Based in Utah County, they don’t have a store front, but their popularity is surging because of their presence at Comic Cons around the country. Episode 33: Awakening of the Utah Nerds

Episode 33 is coming at you with tons and tons of nerd magic and a little bit of Friday the 13th superstition!

Valerie Cameron-Walker was our guest this week on The New Utah Podcast. We couldn’t even begin to cover all the amazing projects she has and is working on! You may know her best from the morning show Val and Mike on B98.7, but we know her as Co-Creator of the upcoming Wizarding Dayz!! Val is heavily involved in the Utah community. Every thing from Utah Pride, Salt Lake Comic Con, Sundance, and she is also currently working on producing a movie! We will get her back to talk about that and because we have to talk about her life with her Marvel fan-site too!

Wizarding Dayz is not a con… not an expo… not a show.. but an EXPERIENCE! Workshops, and classes, and magic- Oh my!!! Val gives us a run down of what is going to be offered and pricing for the February 24th and 25th event at the Southtowne Expo Center. We can’t wait to see how this event goes, because for Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings fans it sounds pretty magical.

And Saturday the 17th, our friends at Mountain West Cider are unveiling a special release they have teamed up with The Green Urban Lunch Box for!! This is limited release.

If you want to stay close to home visit neighborhoods in Sugarhouse, Taylorsville, Kearns, and Draper to see amazing light displays. You can also visit the Salt and Honey Makers Market at the Gateway and get some of Indulge Eats tasty treats and visit Fresh Batch Designs while you are there too! There are opportunities to go ice skating around the valley whether you are outdoors or indoors. Does anyone know if there is still skating in Provo on Utah lake???

Episode 27… Killer Condoms and just stay on the f***ing path…

She makes some of THE best caramels you’ve ever had, homemade marshmallows, she is part of a ladies home-brewing club, and she teaches classes at Alta. If you haven’t had her sweets you can find her at local festivals and markets around Salt Lake City and now she is featured in Lemon and Sage in Springville, Utah! How fitting for our 27th episode we thought we would have some fun, not like we haven’t before, and print out all of the City Weekly Best of 2016 list on THEIR 27th anniversary and go through and pick out our favorites. What we loved and what we thought should be included! Everything from Kevin’s chicken, Ruby Snap, the peaches at Gourmandise, Ogden’s Own, Hot Springs and some hikes and Bear Lake, Comic Book stores, Kerry Jackson, Iconoclad’s amazing social media presence, Ben Winslow having the best Utah twitter (you should follow him), the best donuts,  our friends at Mountain West Cider, and of COURSE Misty K Snow!

BTW… We do not condone people voting for corporate stores that aren’t based in Utah. We have plenty of awesome locals.
