Episode 124 Utah Mid-Term Elections

Standard

We’ve said it the past couple years, we don’t care who you vote for… just make sure you are educated about the candidates and the issues and that you actually vote! You can still register at vote.utah.gov You have until October 30th in Utah. Whether you mail in your ballot or take to your precinct to vote to get your sticker, just vote!

This week we had past guests, Josh Cameron and Alex Castagno, sit down with us to go through their own local campaigns as well as Question 1, Prop 2,3, and 4, and Amendments A, B, and C. We led a great round table, even though our table is square, regarding why these issues may or may not be good to vote for.

Josh is currently running for school board in the Granite district. We asked him his “why” and he said, “there needs to be a way to speak to kids. To give a better hope for the future. To get rid of the “don’t do that” generation. Breaking up classrooms so there aren’t 40 kids in a class sitting on floors and to get rid of standardized testing.”

Alex is running for Senate district 9 seat which is Sandy and White City. We asked him his “why” and he said, “I want to be a deciding vote. Always thinking by the people and for the people and to be there for people who need a chance. To work towards suicide prevention, betterment in housing.”

Utah’s One Thing: Josh Cameron Activist/Volunteer/Veteran/The Dude

Standard

At the end of every New Utah interview we like to ask our guests, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Josh Cameron our local activist, political volunteer, veteran and the dude sat down with us for episode 79. Josh told us that his one thing that someone visiting Utah should do before leaving is make sure to enjoy our micro-brews! He said some of the ones to try are Epic, Wasatch, and Uinta. We love that this is an on-going one thing for our guests.

Josh said one of his personal favorites is is Ba-Ba Black Lager from Uinta Brewing!

Episode 79 Driving your feel goods with the Dude.

Standard

Episode 79 was filled with SO much information it is hard to pick where to begin.

This week we had activist/volunteer/former Mayoral candidate/veteran and just a dude, Josh Cameron, sit down and have an in-depth discussion with us. We trampled on politics, the political climate, his service in the military, why he leans the way he does politically, his activism throughout Utah, and of course his Jay and Silent Bob drinking game! What more could one ask for in a visit?

**DISCLAIMER: If puke stories gross you out, you might want to skip this one. Between Josh and Chris’s hot car drinking stories, well, maybe just don’t eat before listening?

Josh’s passion for politics haven’t been jaded by his drinking games. He is doing what many protestors out there are not doing and that is acting. He ran a campaign for West Valley Mayor, he is involved in the WOLF-PAC (and we don’t mean like the kind in the movie, The Hangover), he is a precinct chair for the Democratic Party in his district, and he is strategically thinking about his next role in our community. He does have a day job too, doing research with USTAR. Josh is currently volunteering with a new app called, Our Voice Initiative, which is a space where candidates anywhere in the country can get their policies, ideas, and issues uploaded. Voters can then take a quiz based on policies and then they can make a more educated vote, versus just voting for a candidate. You can find Josh on Twitter, his YouTube channel, and on Facebook

We look forward to having Josh back as the mid-term elections roll around. Our reminder, it is super important to vote for local candidates over our POTUS. Start small.
