Episode 239 City Weekly Best Of Utah 2020 Recap Part One

Standard

**This episode may have some triggering conversation about suicide at the beginning, Jessica was worried about her roommate. Update he is fine!**

Every year we take liberties with City Weekly’s annual Best of Utah issue and do a recap of some of our favorites that may have been missed. Think of it as like Mystery 3k but podcast and for a magazine. We always end up wondering if people really love La Caille. Does anyone want to pay for us to go so we can make a best determination if it should continue to be voted on? We promise to reenact the scene from Dumb and Dumber.

With many incredible Utah owned businesses, we find ourselves perplexed why the same 3 are appearing every single year in the same categories. Utahn’s, step outside your comfort zone and try something new! A huge thank you to the Saltas family for doing such an incredible job keeping their heads above water during this year. We appreciate you.

Episode 185 City Weekly Best of Utah 2019 Part 1

Standard

First and foremost we cannot thank Editor Enrique Limon enough for always keeping us in mind and recognizing the New Utah Podcast as Utah’s best Podcast homies!! We love that title!

We are breaking it down into two parts for you this year. Things and Stuff and part 2 will be food and nightlife!! We love how City Weekly laid out the guide this year and mixed the staff picks with readers choice. Again, a huge high five to the editors for their timeless write ups on their favorites.

From Enrique in the prologue of the issue, “Our maiden Best of Utah issue boasted 350 ballots returned for its Readers’ Poll. This time around, some 10,000 of you cast 123,527 unique votes across 150 categories. Best Coffee Shop was our most popular category with 2,231 caffeinated votes, followed by Best Radio Station and Worst Utahn. (Notable entries in the latter include “me,” “the person who thought it was a good idea to tear up Utah County I-15” and “My son’s wife—yuck.”

Tune in to hear what we have to say about this years entries!

Episode 132: Part 1 of our Annual City Weekly “Best of” Recap for 2018

Standard

Each year, for the past couple years, we’ve dedicated a couple of episodes to the City Weekly Best of Utah magazine! One show for the staff picks and one show for the reader picks.

Episode 132 we went through the staff picks and picked out some of our favorites and what we thought they might be missing. We’ve said it before, but one of our most favorite parts is that the editors take the time to do a humorous write up on what they are writing about, also with a hilarious title.

For example, this year we got best “best of” from editor Enrique Limon (which we are eternally grateful): The New Utah Podcast
Putting together this annual issue can be a grueling task. Is anyone out there paying attention or are we just flinging copy and pictures into the void in hopes that some business owner instagrams they won Best Original Welcome Mat? Luckily for us curmudgeonly editorial folks, we know at least four people are paying close attention—Jessica Richardson, Chris Burch, Jeremy Gates and Bre Hollingsworth, who for the past two years have dedicated not one, but two episodes (one for editorial picks and one for readers’ choice) to this, the golden plates of Utah awesomeness. Will they agree with this year’s pick for Best Utahn? Will they grill us for our selection of Best Penis Envy? Stay tuned to find out. (EL)

Yes, indeed we did grill them for selection of Best Penis Envy. We were really excited this year to see so many of our past guests make it in! Stay tuned for round 2 in a couple weeks where we go into readers picks!

Best “Best of” Podcast in Utah: City Weekly Best of Utah 2018

Standard

WHAT THE!! YOU GUYS WE WON!

We want to thank Enrique Limon, editor at City Weekly, for recognizing The New Utah Podcast this year as the 2018 “Best Best of Podcast” in their staff picks section under “things.” We may have not gotten the popular vote, but being recognized by the magazine and editors that create these categories is such an honor! We are incredibly humbled and of course stoked!

This particular winning made us all giggle because each show we talk about how we never create “best of” episodes of our past shows. And here we are, being recognized for being Best Best Of, but just in a better way!

It’s a highlight of our year going through the City Weekly Best of Utah (2017pt.1/2017pt.2 and 2016). This will be our third year doing our episode with our personal favorites in the magazine! Stay tuned for that episode, we want to give some time for it to get around the valley before we put in our two cents!

Thanks to everyone that DID vote for us in the readers choice, we appreciate your support more than we could ever vocalize!

Now you’ve pulled up that magazine or picked one up, keep it in your car and challenge yourself to try new things through Utah over the next year!
