Utah’s One Thing: New Utah Host, Chris

Standard

At the end of every New Utah interview we like to ask our guests, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

The New Utah Podcast celebrated our 1 year anniversary recently. During episode 52 we each thought we should do our “one thing” someone visiting Utah should do before leaving! Chris said that someone visiting Utah should head to The Chocolate. They have two locations, one in Orem and one in West Jordan.

Chris was very specific that you must visit the West Jordan location. He also said that you need to try skiing and/or snowboarding, cause Utah!

At the end of every New Utah interview we like to ask our guests, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

The New Utah Podcast celebrated our 1 year anniversary recently. In Episode 52 ,we each thought we should do our “one thing” someone visiting Utah should do before leaving!

Bre had a hard time coming up with her one thing. After a little poking and prodding, she came up with the perfect one thing! While someone is visiting Utah, Bre said they must make it to a Real Salt Lake game! This is perfect because Bre and Chris spend their soccer season cheering and supporting Utah’s own MLS team, win or lose.

So if you believe, just stand up on your feet… we’re here for RSL!

Utah’s One Thing: Melinda Meservy of Thyme and Place

Standard

At the end of every New Utah interview we like to ask our guests, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Of course we get a lot of the same answers on the one thing that people should do in Utah before leaving, because yes, we are known for Temple Square, our National Parks, and the mountains. When Melinda of Thyme and Place joined us for our year end episode 52, she brought to the table that someone visiting Utah needs to try some High West Whiskey! We couldn’t agree more. If you get a chance head up to the distillery, but if not you can get it at most, if not all, local restaurants and bars that serve alcohol! She did also throw in there to head south as well, but we know that is a given!

Episode 51 Alan Scott, of the brand new and shiny Waterpocket Distillery, told us that the one thing that people should do when visiting Utah is to head to Capitol Reef to his business name sake, the Waterpocket Fold.  He described it as a “miracle at your finger tips,” and “world class landscape.” And if you are short on time Alan did suggest heading up Little Cottonwood Canyon!

Episode 50 we had the extraordinary Tami Steggell, the owner and cookie architect, at RubySnap. Of course the one thing you should do when visiting Utah is to visit her shop and have some cookies! However, Tami said her one thing is to head to Emigration Canyon.  We guess that can be second best to her cookies!

At the end of every New Utah interview we like to ask our guests, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?

When we had Victor of BumbleBee’s KBBQ for epsiode 49, he made us all laugh by starting his one thing in Utah off by saying how little of a night life there is in Utah. Victor did say the given, Temple Square. But then there was a little light that went off. Victor said the one thing you must do before leaving a visit to Utah is to head to Strawberry Reservoir or Mirror Lake and fish!

At the end of every New Utah interview we like to ask our guests, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

This is a special edition Utah’s One Thing. In March, Utah was graced with one of Ireland’s top podcaster’s, Peter Donegan, of The Sod Show. We haven’t been able to have him on the show yet, but he did send in a special request for the one thing someone must do before leaving Utah.  Episode 45 we were able to do this one thing for him! (you can find him on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)

Hidden in the middle of two buildings down 5th south and by 7th east in downtown Salt Lake, that if you blinked you would miss, is the Gilgal Sculptural Gardens. A beautiful outdoor space that is unique to Utah. If you’ve seen a sphinx head of Joseph Smith floating around the internet, this is where you will find it in real life.

Designed and created by Thomas Battersby Child, Jr. in the mid-twentieth century. The Gilgal Sculpture Garden contains 12 original sculptures, 70+ stones engraved with scriptures, poems, and literary texts.

It is open to the public seven days a week. There is no admission charge. Walking tour brochures are available at the garden. Visiting hours: April/September – 8 am to 8 pm October/March – 9 am to 5 pm Closed New Year Day; Thanksgiving; Christmas.
