Utah’s One Thing: Author Michaelbrent Collings

Standard

At the end of every New Utah interview we like to ask our guests, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Episode 97 guest, author MichaelBrent Collings, might not live in Utah but he has spent a bit of time here! We still wanted to know what his one thing he would tell someone visiting Utah that they had to do. Michael told us that you must visit Temple Square because there is only ONE Temple Square and because of how it is part of the history of the state of Utah. Episode 97 Leaving the 7th Circle of Hell

Standard

Once upon a time there was a nose digging troll, who then turned into a juggler. He grew up and ventured into being a lawyer, but they don’t read fiction. So he decided to be a writer! This life adventurer of many talents that was able to make it out of the 7th circle of hell *aka Los Angeles* is none other than world-renowned author and screenplay writer, Michaelbrent Collings. We were so excited he joined us via Skype this week!

Bre is a huge fan and was able to delve into some of the books that he has penned that she has read. We learned a bit more about his creative process behind The Longest Con, Apparition, and Strangers.

Michaelbrent gave us three tips for writing:

  1. Bore me, die.
  2. Confuse me, lose me.
  3. Make the world a better place.

Even though his books tend to take on dark subject matter, Michaelbrent explained to us why he doesn’t take from headlines and how he stays grounded while writing horror stories. When Michaelbrent is not writing horror or fantasy books, he is incognito under the pen name “Angelica Hart” where he gets in touch with his lovey-dovey side writing western historical clean romances. We didn’t know that was a thing? Of course we had to ask Michaelbrent what his favorite horror films were, but you’ll just have to listen for that answer!

You can find Michaelbrent’s books anywhere books are available. You can follow him on Facebook, Twitter, or you can sign up for his writing courses on his website. We hope to see him back this fall at Salt Lake Comic Con where we can maybe get him on in person!
