Episode 335 – Hari Krishna’s in Utah

Standard

It’s Utah Adventure Week! We pay a special visit to a very unique place in Utah and even in America, basically outside of India. The Radha Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork, Utah.

We get to meet the head of that temple, Caru Das and spend a couple hours with him talking about the history of the temple, all the wonderful things they do there and about the faith. We visited their sanctuary, their shop, and the grounds with their fantastic koi pond that fertilizes their gardens, their birds and llamas.  The views are amazing and everyone living there is so lucky.  The temple grounds are home to the largest color festival outside India.

It was really an amazing experience and we hope you all enjoy hearing about it.  Chris has worked in some recordings that include some chanting and even a little rap! Thank you to Folk Hogan for our intro music. Follow us @tnupodcast on our social media.

I need y’all to know that I’m wearing two inch platforms in this picture and am still a good six inches shorter than the next shortest person!

Episode 310 – Cockblaster 9000

Standard

This episode we talk about the passing of a true Utah activist to start the show. A former guest, Psarah Johnson, was a true social warrior. She was almost always found at the center of any social justice movement for women, the LGBTQ+ community and people with disabilities. If you ever had the pleasure of meeting her or working with her, you knew she believed in what she fought for, and never let anything get her down without a damn good reason.

We also find out Bre has yet another sister out in the world. A very different store with this one and for now, we aren’t giving too many details, but suffice to say, we question how many more there may be for sure.

We also talk a lot about the existing Utah drought, and the levels of the reservoirs around the west. Lake Mead in particular has been so low, that all manner of things are being found, including bodies inside of barrels from the 70s and 80s. We urge everyone to cut back on their watering this year, and talk about how dead our lawns will be too. Plus we get a bee update from Jeremy.

The heart of the episode though is spent talking with Valerie Trujillo, the owner and creator of Tru Creations Crochet, a local crochet artist that makes clothes and all manner of fun crochet oddities. Her instagram is full of all the things she makes. She was even outside the studio, finishing the top she wore in studio.

While her clothes are fantastic, I can’t get over all the other stuff she makes personally. From butts, to penises, to baby Gorgus, she is extremely talented. She does it all as a hobby, when she is just sitting around. She takes custom orders, and clearly nothing is off the table. We really enjoyed talking to her and hope you enjoy listening.

Episode 303 – Robert Brownie Jr

Standard

Meet Molly Kohrman, founder and head chef at Brownies Brownies Brownies! a local baker and you guessed it, brownie specialist. Molly is from the east coast, Philadelphia to be precise, and came to Utah, following the rest of her family moving here. Molly is a strong supporter of the community and a great inspirational local Utah business woman.

Facebook

In talking to Molly we were all shocked at how she started her business here in Utah. She tells us all about how she got into baking and a love of brownies of course, but it is the actual adventure in starting a business that is worth hearing about. She spent a lot of time prior to starting, getting help from a wealth of amazing small business resources available for free in the state of Utah. From the Utah Small Business Development Center to the Women’s Business Center of Utah, to the public library, she talks us through all the resources she had available to get started the right way. Needless to say Chris and Jeremy wished they knew of such resources.

Molly is also a strong community advocate. She has helped give back in numerous ways through the years she has been in business. She tells us a lot about the community fund raisers she does during the show. We also get to hear about how she likes to collaborate with other businesses since Utah is such a loving business community.

Brownies Brownies Brownies

Of course no show about brownies would be complete without talking about the brownies themselves, and we do a lot of that. From Molly’s favorites, to how she decides what to make to our suggestions, and we all leave very hungry.
