Episode 258 – Steve Irwin in Heels

Standard

This week we get to sit down with Faith Heaton Jolley of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. We jump right in by finding out she is a Valentine’s Day baby, and was raised in the tiny town of Alton, UT. She went to all of her grade school in that tiny town. By college it was time for a culture shock and a move to Utah Valley University. Eventually working for KSL as a journalist before burning out and taking up a job with the DWR.

We get into the details of everything the DWR actually covers. While its mostly hunting and fishing management type stuff, the nature cops do a lot more. We spend a fair amount of time talking about wild animal encounters, and what the Utah DWR is doing to help different animal populations in Utah. We cover cougars, bear, herd animals, wild horses, fish, mussels and more. We get to talk about the new dip tank at Lake Powell being tried this year to kill off the invasive mussels in that lake. We also regale in the success of the land bridge built in Parley’s Canyon over I-80.

The team reviews The Dog Haus as a restaurant and hot dog location, even though Jeremy didn’t try a hot dog. Shows these days aren’t complete without some Jokes on Letter Kenney either. Our Tarot card for the week is the Queen of Cups, the mother of the famed Nigerian Prince. She represents Femininity, warmth, sympathy, and intuition.
