Utah’s One Thing: Steve Jerman, Utah Cheese Awards founder

Standard

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Episode 149 we sat down with Utah Cheese Awards and Salt Lake Cheese Festival founder, Steve Jerman. We asked him what he would have someone visiting Utah should do and he told us that they should head to Gilgal Sculptural Gardens! We’ve only had two other guests that have mentioned this hidden gem in Salt Lake City. He said it is so cool! Steve thinks all great artists like to see the weird and pristine, and that it is quite a production to build brick pants!

Utah’s One Thing: Danny B Stewart, Storyteller

Standard

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

For episode 123 we had storyteller, Danny B Stewart, join us! When we asked Danny what the one thing he would tell someone visiting Utah that they needed to do before leaving, he said “let me pray about it…” Danny’s answer was to visit Gilgal Garden! Gilgal Garden is a quiet, hidden sculptural garden located in the middle of downtown Salt Lake City. Containing 12 original sculptures and over 70 stones engraved with scriptures, poems, and literary texts. It is definitely an artistic sight to behold!

Utah’s One Thing: Peter Donegan of The Sod Show

Standard

At the end of every New Utah interview we like to ask our guests, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

This is a special edition Utah’s One Thing. In March, Utah was graced with one of Ireland’s top podcaster’s, Peter Donegan, of The Sod Show. We haven’t been able to have him on the show yet, but he did send in a special request for the one thing someone must do before leaving Utah.  Episode 45 we were able to do this one thing for him! (you can find him on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)

Hidden in the middle of two buildings down 5th south and by 7th east in downtown Salt Lake, that if you blinked you would miss, is the Gilgal Sculptural Gardens. A beautiful outdoor space that is unique to Utah. If you’ve seen a sphinx head of Joseph Smith floating around the internet, this is where you will find it in real life.

Designed and created by Thomas Battersby Child, Jr. in the mid-twentieth century. The Gilgal Sculpture Garden contains 12 original sculptures, 70+ stones engraved with scriptures, poems, and literary texts.

It is open to the public seven days a week. There is no admission charge. Walking tour brochures are available at the garden. Visiting hours: April/September – 8 am to 8 pm October/March – 9 am to 5 pm Closed New Year Day; Thanksgiving; Christmas.
