This week we were joined by attorney, activist, feminist, and all around phenomenal person; Kate Kelly.

You may know her as the former head and creator of Ordain Women who was violently ex-communicated from the LDS (Mormon) church. BUT we wanted to delve deeper because frankly she’s talked that subject to death and she has SO much more to say. We had an opportunity to talk to her about her upcoming law firm she will be opening(G.I.R.L.), her wiki page, her continued work on a book about slave breeding and how it shaped our country, her definition of being a feminist, and we got pretty passionate about Planned Parenthood with her. Excuse the emotions.  Kate has so much on her plate and her passion runs deep. And if the politics of it all are too much, you  may just love someone who loves mid-century modern, she’s fun to follow!

Oh! And we’re all in agreement that Orrin Hatch will be dying in office. Wah-wah…

At the end of every New Utah interview we like to ask our guests, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Psarah Johnson of Utah Women Unite had us in her home for episode 39. After moving away from Utah and then moving back, Psarah said that the one thing someone visiting Utah should see are our mountains. It is what brings her back. Psarah also mentioned the vistas down in Bryce Canyon!

Episode 41 Chocolate Easter Lizards

Great news guys… Episode 41 is comin at you like all roads that lead to Uncle Rico! (that’s about as glorious as it gets, if you didn’t know)

The New Utah was joined this week by another previous guest from Episode 22 at the Halloween Expo. Tracey Rolfe came back to Utah for her new book release, which is not even released in the UK yet, and for Wizarding Dayz . We recapped the last few months with her and we even got the scoop on her new book, “The White Witch of Spiton and the Curse of Pendle Hill.” It will be hitting Amazon on March 19th but in the mean time check out her other books in this series HERE. We will link on our Facebook at that time. We look forward to skyping Tracey in with us when the final book of the White Witch of Spiton series is released.

Last weekend we had Travis Tate back to talk about the First Golden Spike Comedy and Podcast Fest. 8-11th through the Gateway, including WiseGuys Comedy Club, there is plenty of talent from Jimmy Pardo to Margaret Cho to Jason Mewes and Utah’s own Jacob Leigh, Jay Whittaker… frankly it should all tickle your funny bone! AND GO SUPPORT TRAVIS!

This weekend get your mechanics on by heading to the Maverick Center for a real live robot competition put on by Utah’s FIRST Robotics Competition. The 7th annual event will take place on the 10th and 11th.  On the 8th is Utah Women Unite‘s Ignored but not Silenced Direct Action event up at the capitol building.

Episode 39: No He-Man Woman Haters Here!

Wow! What can we say. Episode 39 is full of GIRL POWER!!

The New Utah Podcast was welcomed into PSarah Johnson’s home this week, she even let us use her heated toilet seat with the landing strip lights! Who is this PSarah (yes, that is spelled correctly) you say?? She is the caucus director of Utah Women Unite. Yes, those amazing women who put together Utah Women’s March in January. The women that are fighting the good fight! She also tells us how that “p” got in front of her name.  If you are looking to get involved, she has plenty of opportunities for you. Utah Women Unite holds their meetings the first Wednesday of each month at the Clubhouse on South Temple. They have feminist bingo coming up on the 27th, the Ignored but Not Silenced Direct Action on March 8th, and the Show Us Your Green Gala on St. Patrick’s Day. Join Utah Women Unite Facebook group for future events and to do something!
