Episode 211 Capturing COVID in SLC

Standard

Episode 211 we had the pleasure of taking a field trip to the photography studio of Steve Conlin, Paul Duane, and Nick Sokoloff. *Nick was unable to join us due to a prior engagement.* We went back in time to see when Steve previously joined us at it was for episode 26!! Yes, mind blown. So in addition to talking about the project the three of them are working on, we had to meet Paul and do a catch up with Steve!

First we got to know Paul a little bit, and we will definitely make sure we have him back to talk more about his podcast in depth. Paul has lived several lives. Musician, mail man, talk show host, photographer, and podcaster. Paul is the voice behind the Soul Anarchist Podcast. At one time you may have heard him on the radio or even been lucky to attended one of his shows at Metro Hall. Now you can see his photography, read his incredibly thoughtful, and emotion invoking, blog entries, or catch one of his Sunday night 21:12 fire sides. Oh! And most definitely on his podcast! We will do a deeper dive at a later date with Paul!

A lot has been happening for Steve over the last three years. In addition to producing and getting out to the community their libations, Ogden’s Own just moved into their brand new building in Ogden. Since the start of COVID Five Wives has moved from one building to another and during all of that, been mass producing hand sanitizer! They were the first distillery in Utah to really jump into making sanitizer once the approval was announced. It has been readily available for the public both at the distillery and through local businesses such as City Weekly Market place clear up to Edith’s Collective in Malad! They have also made several trips to the Navajo Nation to make sure they have provisions.

We wanted to get these gentlemen together to talk about a heart-felt project they’ve been working on the last couple months, Capturing COVID SLC. The idea is to capture and record this moment in time. Steve said, “the idea was to capture a formal sense of time and what is happening.” How people are feeling being isolated, working from home, or maybe even their lives not changing too much during COVID19. To show that each of us have been effected differently over the past couple months. Think of Capturing COVID SLC as a snapshot. A memory. A bit of history. Their goal is to compile the stories and photo’s in a book. This is where all of you come in! You can sign up to tell your story on their website. It’s been fun seeing some of our past guests make appearances such as Jen and Derek from Olio Skin and Beard and Pete Saltas from City Weekly. We’re all alone, together.
