Utah’s One Thing: Derek Kitchen, Utah Senator District 2

Standard

Since we started our show in 2016, we have been asking our guests at the end of every New Utah interview, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Episode 126 we had the honor of sitting down with Derek Kitchen, Senator for District 2. Derek had a great list of things that he would tell someone visiting Utah that they must do before leaving! Derek’s first item would be to visit Utah’s cultural arts. He said to visit the Granary Row district mural program. Derek said you have to visit Utah’s Brewery’s (the link is just a handful of breweries that exist in Utah) and partake in some of Utah’s own cocktails. Also, head over to Temple Square and visit Space Jesus… aka the Christus statue of Jesus in the visitor center. But we most definitely prefer Space Jesus.

Episode 97 guest, author MichaelBrent Collings, might not live in Utah but he has spent a bit of time here! We still wanted to know what his one thing he would tell someone visiting Utah that they had to do. Michael told us that you must visit Temple Square because there is only ONE Temple Square and because of how it is part of the history of the state of Utah. When Jennifer and Derek Williamson of Olio Skin and Beard Co. visited us for episode 36, they didn’t even pick the same spot!

Derek said the one thing you should do when visiting Utah is go to Southern Utah to see the red rocks. The includes 5 national parks that stretch across the south of the state.

Utah’s One Thing: Hraefn Wulfson

Standard

At the end of every New Utah interview we like to ask our guests, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Hraefn Wulfson in episode 20 suggested that the one thing to do in Utah when visiting is to look at what makes the historical foundations of Utah, but look at it from an archaeological perspective. The things that are here, that are part of the founding culture, are very interesting from an anthropology point of view. The temple is a unique piece of architecture and when you think of how it is made it gives a different perspective on Utah. And what better way to know about it’s history, than to go to Temple Square.

Also, stop at the Salt Flats!
