Campaign manager to Misty K Snow and now Davis County chair for Utah Women Unite, this woman is standing up and fighting the good fight. This week is our last interview from the Utah Halloween Expo. The New Utah had the pleasure of sitting down for quite some time and chatting with Jen McGrew of Utah’s own, McGrew Studios. We had her business partner on a couple weeks ago, Hraefn Wulfson, and it was great to hear about their work and of course, Deadpool!

Ps. McGrew Studios are the amazing people that supplied the costume for the adorable Mini Wonder Woman that went viral the past couple weeks.

Misty K. Snow Vs. Mike Lee: Medical Marijuana and health care

Standard

Welcome to the Snow Storm!!

Listen weekly to the SNOW STORM  podcast

mistysnow-vs-mike-lee

Misty K. Snow met with The New Utah Podcast on September 13th, 2016 to discuss her platform on legalization of medical marijuana and health care vs. Mike Lee and his passive actions towards medical marijuana and his constant fight to defund the Affordable Care Act.

Legalization of Marijuana:

Misty is passionate about decriminalization of marijuana at a federal level. Federal and state laws are conflicting and it would beneficial to get rid of the federal prohibition for states to be able to pass laws for medical use. Misty K. Snow is also passionate about the benefits to medical marijuana, “these are people we know,” she said regarding the use. There would also be tax benefits in making marijuana a legal substance.  People should not be prosecuted for choosing to use medical marijuana over addictive opiods when it is the only thing that may work for the persons ailment and in the long term will do less addictive damage.

Mike Lee has no opinion listed when it comes to Marijuana legalization. In a C-Span interview in 2015 he said, “I’m looking at this legislation and I haven’t made a decision on it yet. It’s worth considering.” He has however made an effort towards criminal justice reform though. There was a case here in Utah that a colleague put a man in jail for 55 years for selling marijuana to an undercover cop, but Lee has asked for clemency and so has the judge that put him away. That person, Weldon Angelos, was recently released.

Although it passed, Mike Lee voted NAY on the opiod bill, one of only 2 senators to vote against a bill that would provide research, access to treatment, and limit on MedicarePart D Beneficiaries to one pharmacy and one provider for prescriptions. The bill would also authorize federal grants to find alternatives for opiod abusers instead of jail. Mike Lee, ““did not believe the legislation was likely to help solve the problem, nor did he believe it was properly paid for.” Even Orrin Hatch voted for this bill and Utah has one of the highest opiod addictions in the country.

Health Care:

Misty K. Snow believes that the Affordable Care Act has been beneficial but there are still about 30 million people un-insured which means there is still a lot of work to do. It is a good first step though. Medicare/Medicaid need to be expanded and access to health care needs to be more affordable and accessible. There has to be a way to re-think health care and provide better expansions, there has to be options for access, and the realization that health care is a human right.

Mike Lee has been on a mission to defund the Affordable Care Act stating it gives too much power to the government. At the time Senator Mike Lee sent a very strong worded letter to Harry Reid about repealing Obama Care. However  while they try over and over, Republicans have failed and instead of just offering an alternative they just keep swinging at air.

Remember you can vote for the Senate and live ANYWHERE in Utah. That means even in Moab, Eureka, and Logan!

Misty K. Snow Vs Mike Lee: Women’s Issues

Standard

Welcome to the Snow Storm!!

Listen weekly to the SNOW STORM  podcast

mistysnow-vs-mike-lee

Misty K. Snow met with The New Utah Podcast on September 6th, 2016 to discuss her platform on women’s issues vs. Mike Lee and his non-existent platform on women’s issues.

Legalization of Marijuana:

Misty is passionate about the benefits of decriminalization and the benefits to medical marijuana.

Equal pay for Women and preventing pay discrimination and creating paid maternity leave:

The United States is one of the only countries, with one of the highest populations in the world, that does NOT offer PAID maternity leave. Misty K. Snow’s platform stands strongly in providing paid leave for our mothers. There is nothing protecting the jobs of these mothers while they are on leave. Currently a woman is allowed 12 weeks of UNPAID maternity leave, when other countries are starting to even offer paternity leave. It is time to step our game up and provide for the mother’s that provide for us. Misty feels incredibly passionate about making sure that these mother’s are taken care of so that children are nurtured during that first impressionable part of their lives.

Mike Lee voted “Nay” in equal pay. Government tends to think there isn’t a pay gap and have seemed to wipe their hands clean by saying it needs to be controlled by the “market.” Misty K. Snow wants people to talk about what they make. It is not illegal to have that conversation. Employers put in their hand books that these conversations cannot take place, and Misty wants to create laws that allow the conversation without repercussions. Another contributor in the pay gap/creating a living wage is the fact that women are 2/3 of the minimum wage workers.

Violence against Women Re-authorization Act:

The act did pass in the Senate, but Mike Lee voted “Nay” at the time. This act promotes and provides services for women that are in a domestic violence situation or women that are part of international trafficking. Resources such as housing, counseling, etc. Misty K. Snow points out that priorities are skewed because there are more animal shelters in the U.S. than there are women’s shelters. The bill will be up for reconsideration again in 2018 and Misty said her vote will be “Yay” for funding and protecting these women and their families.

Remember to vote for the Senate you can live ANYWHERE in Utah.

This week at The New Utah Podcast we were fortunate and honored to have Misty K Snow in our studio. *we’re not worthy…. we’re not worthy* (that was said in Wayne and Garth fashion if you didn’t know)

CqMGP_TVIAABlSi

Who is Misty K.(it really is Kathrine, not Killer) Snow you ask? Well, if you have been living under a rock or perhaps you are just here in Utah where the local media isn’t giving the local campaigns the air time they should have, she is the nominee for the Utah Democratic party that has a fight of her life up against … duh duh duhhhhhh…. Mike Lee.

We were so excited to get some time from her and give her a platform to talk about herself and what she is fighting for. We didn’t want to limit her time like many media sources have to do. Now, if you are gathering information on candidates and are leaning towards Misty because she is, “of the people for the people,” but you are concerned she doesn’t have a political background… just stop thinking that nonsense and listen to her! Misty K. Snow is VERY knowledgeable of what she is stepping into and what she wants to do in the Senate. It was very cool to hear about her ah-ha moment of why she felt she needed to run for the Democratic Senate seat.

Coming in at the last minute and sweeping a win away from Jonathan Swinton, Misty is still building her funds, and working a very grassroots campaign by going from Cache County to Washington County. She talks about her stance on legalization of marijuana, idea of helping air quality, a smart minimum wage increase, and making sure pregnant moms are taken care of with maternity leave longer than 6 weeks.

We cannot wait to hear her debate Mike Lee in October on the 12th.

Regardless of who you vote for, Misty K. Snow is making history with her campaign. She comes from a working class background, her platforms are realistic and of the people (air quality, maternity leave, minimum wage, and more), she would be one of the youngest people in congress, and she would be Utah’s first Transgender Senator!

You can donate your time, your money, your resources at www.mistyksnow.com.  You can also mail a check to Misty K. Snow For U.S. Senate PO Box 3053 SLC Utah 84110.

Oh and in case you were wondering…. YOU CAN VOTE FOR MISTY K SNOW ANYWHERE IN UTAH!

And for the record, the K doesn’t stand for killer, but we think it gives her an extra edge. Follow her on Facebook at Misty K Snow or on Twitter @MistyKSnow

Now make sure you are registered to vote, share this, and spread the word and create a snowball effect!!
